Srinagar: Minister for R&B, Mr. Abdul Rehaman Veeri today informed the House that due to incessant rains and flesh floods of September 2014, the road infrastructure in the state in general got seriously damaged.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Haji Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the Minister said that although restoration works were under taken, yet lot more needs to be done to improve the conditions of these roads including those of Gool-Arnas and Gulabgarh constituencies.
The Minister said that the department has made serious efforts to ensure better riding surface by way of providing and laying of 50mm thick bituminous macadam and 25 mm thick semi dense bituminous concrete.
The Minister said during the last two years, a total road length of 1.50 kms and 9.82 kms were blacktopped under various sectors in Gulabgarh and Gool-Arnas constituencies respectively.
He said in addition to this the department endeavored to take two road projects of Gulabgarh constituency for a length of 4 kms under macademization programme at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.88 crore during last financial year. He said similarly, it was proposed to macadamized 12 roads of Gool-Arnas constituency for a total length of 27 kms at an estimated cost of Rs. 11.92 crore during the said year. He also gave the details of these roads which were to be macadamized during last financial year in these constituencies.
The Minister said, however, the aforesaid works could not be executed. He said this was due to non response from the bidders despite invitation of tenders several times. He said now the fresh tenders have been invited and it is expected that the work on these roads will be taken up shortly subject to the response from the bidders.
