Bengaluru: Chris Gayle has become the first player to get past the 10,000 run mark in T20 cricket, a landmark he reached while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Gujarat Lions in Rajkot.
Gayle reached the mark when he scored his third run, having started the match on 9997 runs. The West Indian is miles ahead of the others in the list, as second placed Brendon McCullum is more than two thousand runs behind the Jamaican.
Gayle eventually scored 77 runs off 39 deliveries in the match, which was his first half-century of the season. The burly opener hit 7 massive sixes and five boundaries during his stay in the middle.
Gayle, who has been playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2011, has played some memorable knocks for the franchise over the years. He has an unbelievable 18 T20 centuries to his name, with five of them coming in the Indian Premier League.
Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, who is playing for Gujarat Lions is second with 7524 runs under his belt. McCullum has played in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, Kochi Tuskers, Chennai Super Kinds and his current team, Gujarat Lions.
Australian veteran, Brad Hodge, who is currently the coach of the Gujarat Lions franchise, is third on the list with 7338 runs to his name while Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner is fourth with 7156 runs to his name.
