Srinagar, August 18: (GNS)Senior BJP leader and former union minister Yashwant Sinha on Friday urge the Government of India to clear its stand on Article 35-A of the constitution.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Srinagar, Sinha, who along with members of Concerned Citizens Group was on two-day Kashmir visit, said people of Kashmir are concerned over the Article 35-A and they are hopeful that GoI will clear its position on the matter that has snowballed into major controversy.

“There is much concern about Article 35-A among people. The Government of India should clear its stand on 35-A. The State Government has filed its petition on 35-A in Supreme Court,” he said. Pertinently, Article 35A of the Indian Constitution is an article that empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and provide special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.

Sinha said that majority of people in Kashmir as well as India want peace in Valley. “The two majorities should get together so that we are able to bring peace together here,” he said. He added that people of Kashmir are in pain due to unsettled condition of issues and maintained that there is need to make lives of common people of Kashmir better.(GNS)
