DDC launches plantation drive in Reasi

Jammu : As part of Green Reasi Mission, District Development Commissioner, Reasi Ravinder Kumar today launched a plantation drive to mark the  Van Mahotsav.

The Van Mahotsav will continue from July 1 to July 7, 2016 in which a series of activities will be taken up under the theme ‘Each One, Plant One’.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that Green Reasi Mission was launched with an aim of improving biodiversity of the region and ensuring sustainable development of the ecologically fragile region. It will also help in soil and water conservation, thereby, minimizing incidents of landslides and other related environmental problems, the DDC added.

The DDC also convened a meeting of District & Sectoral Officers of all the departments on the occasion and issued them instructions to start plantation drives at the grassroots level by involving common masses and create awareness among the students to increase the green gold in the district.

The DDC said that various stakeholders including panchayats, Northern Railways, KRCL, AFCONS, NHPC & NGOs should be involved in the plantation drives. These plantation drives should not be restricted to Van Mahotsava week only but should continue throughout the year, he added.

The DDC accompanied by District Panchayat Officer, Principal GDC, and other officers planted trees in the premises of various Govt. institutions including District Hospital, Degree College, Polytechnic College & schools throughout the day.
