RAJOURI: Additional District Development Commissioner Rajouri A.S. Chib today flagged off a group of 40 trekkers for 3 day expedition to 7 alpine lakes in the upper reaches of Pir Panjal region.
The expedition will trek from Bhudkhanari base camp pass through Shakarmarg to reach the 7 lakes.
The expedition is first of its kind and organised to explore new destinations in the district and bring these on tourism map of the state especially to attract adventure tourists. The expedition has been sponsored by the tourism department as a part of its annual publicity committee.
Speaking on the occasion ADDC Rajouri described it as break through event in promoting tourism in the area. The initiative has been taken to bring the Shakarmarg and 7 lakes including Nanan Sar, Sukh Sar, Kaldachni, Katoria Sar, Handu Sar, Bhag Sar and Samat Sar on the tourist map and also attract people towards the new spots, he added.
Also present on the occasion were Showkat Malik, CEO Rajouri Development Authority. He said that the District has immense potential for tourism and to explore and develop these many projects are in the pipeline. He said Rs 5.98 crore projects have been planned for the area including creation of view points, trekking paths, cafeterias etc .
Mr. Malik further said the participants for the trekking programme have been provided with all the required trekking essentials and safety gears and renowned trekkers are also part of the expedition team.
He also apprised that the department will soon launch trekking towards Kandi to Kori and Kesri Hills and Nanga Thub.
