Heroin smuggler who escaped from jail arrested in Udhampur

Jammu, Oct 11 : Police on Thursday said that it achieved a major success by arresting hardcore narcotic smuggler who had escaped from Police Custody during intervening night of September 10/11.

Giving details, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur said that based on a reliable information regarding the movement of one of the fugitive narcotic smuggler Iftikhar Ali son of Muzzafar Din of Kotli Bain, Chopra Shop, Udhampur on NHW alongwith a consignment of heroin in Udhampur/Rehmbal area, the police concerned established strong nakas along the highway.

One naka at Tikri led by Insp. Paramjeet Singh, SHO Rehmbal assisted by SI Pawan Dogra and another in Battal Ballian area of Udhampur led by Insp. Sanjeev Chib SHO Udhampur, he said.

During naka checking, Police party at Tikri noticed above said smuggler traveling in a passenger vehicle and immediately arrested him, he said.

During his search, 06 gms of suspected heroin (chitta) worth ₹ 30000/-approx was recovered, he said.

Though his photograph was already shared with naka parties, his identity was immediately established as the narcotic smuggler who had escaped from Police Station Udhampur about 01month earlier. Hunt for the other fugitive is still on, he said.

In this connection, A case FIR No.148 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered in PS Rehmbal and further investigation of the case is going on, he added. (GNS)
