BANDIPORA: A day long cleaning drive was initiated today by Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW) get supported by CARITAS INDIA at Lankreshipora in Bandipora . The aim of the drive was to sensitize the people residing in the embankments to protect the water bodies in their area.

Speaking on the occasion, the Project Coordinator JKASW Ambreen said that  due to population expansion the streams and the rivers get polluted that reduce the water storage capacity resulting in floods  and cause adverse  impact on  the livelihood of marginalized fishermen.

“Involving community members especially disaster management teams from every village in the Wular vicinity in cleaning drive will surely make them realize about the impact of throwing garbage in the water bodies,” said the Project Coordinator. She further added that the production of fish and water chestnuts have reduced to a larger extent so this is a high time to take small steps that may result in long term achievements.

The locals of village Lankreshipora actively and willingly cleaned the garbage from Nallah Arin and spread the messages of cleaning drive through play cards. Moreover the Shirkat team motivated the locals to continue this drive on weekly bases.
