‘Cheat India’ director Soumik Sen, found himself under the scanner once again after an anonymous Twitter user accused him of sexual harassment and claimed that the film’s producer Atul Kasbekar “kept silent and took no action.”
While The Times of India respects and supports the spirit of the #MeToo movement and is aggressively covering the horrific stories of sexual harassment allegations, as per our policy, we have also made a conscious decision not to report allegations posted anonymously on social media site.
After the allegations against the director and producer began doing the rounds, the production house, Ellipsis Entertainment, co-founded by Atul Kasbekar released a statement, addressing the same. Hence it’s news and we reported it keeping in mind our readers’right to know. In the statement posted on their official social media handle, they mentioned that they “have not received any complaint of inappropriate behaviour by director Soumik Sen,” adding, “We will soon file a complaint with the cyber crime cell to look into the matter.”
In their note, they further asked people “to be wary of unsubstantiated allegations, particularly anonymous ones, which could be mischievously made with ulterior motives.”
