Youth Action Committee Bhaderwah on Wednesday organised a massive protest over shortage of doctors in sub district hospital Bhaderwah and accused the state government of adopting “discriminatory policy” against them.
Scores of people including youths, patients, demonstrated outside the Block Medical Officer’s (BMO) office in Bhaderwah and attempted to lock the main gate of hospital and block development officer. Police swung into action and prevented people from locking the gates.
The protesters were demanding the services of a gynaecologist, anaesthesiologist and other specialists in the hospital. “There is an acute shortage of doctors in the hospital,” Naseer Mehboob Padder president Youth Action Committee said.
He said the new Sub District Hospital at Bhaderwah was set up to provide quality medicare to people of the area. But it is quite dismaying that this state-of-the-art hospital has failed to live to the expectations of people and many important life saving machines are being shifted to other areas.
Later Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhaderwah Imam Din along with Dy SP Brijesh Sharma, Tehsildar Masood Rangraz, SHO Jatinder Sambyal and BMO Dr Yudvir Singh reached the spot and people submitted a memorandum of demands to the officials and were assured that soon all the vacant posts of doctors would be fulfilled.
