Octogenarian Hurriyat Patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday while terming Public Safety Act (PSA) “a draconian law”, said that the people arrested under the grab of this act is a sheer “violation of human values”.
In a statement, Geelani said that under the garb of PSA, the authorities and police feel free to detain anyone for years on flimsy charges and without providing any pieces of evidence.
The senior most resistance leader said that it is “ridiculous” that authorities while surpassing and neglecting their own rules and regulations, dishonour and neglect the judicial rulings and directives.
Referring to police and state authorities for their “autocratic approach” against detainees, Geelani said that they take refuge in a formal court order that “accused is released if not wanted in any other case” and hence the detainee is charge sheeted repeatedly on fabricated grounds without taking consideration of provisions of justice and discourse of law.
Appealing international human rights organisation to take cognizance, Geelani asked the organisations to use their good office for immediate release of all detainees languishing in different jails.
