Srinagar : Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Department Asiea Naqash today informed the House that the Lakes & Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) is carrying De-weeding of Dal Lake every year manually by floating tenders.
She said De-weeding is taking place in two seasons i.e. Spring De-weeding and Autumn De-weeding. Besides, skimming is also done during the summer period in the Dal and the total period during the year involved in this activity consists of nine months, with some intervals, the Minister said.

The Minister said for stopping entry of sewage into Dal Lake, sewerage network is being laid around, most of which is completed. She said the sewerage network for Konakhan area on Western Foreshore Road has been taken up by LAWDA and sewerage work on Rainawari side being implemented by J&K UEED for completing the same.
She said the UEED has submitted DPR to the Central Government under AMRUT programme. She said Five Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP) of Aggregate 36.7 MLD capacity have already been commissioned by LAWDA and one more STP is proposed for area on north of Northern Foreshore Road.
The Minister said that the ‘A’ grade houseboats would be relocated on the Doldam, an island in the middle of Dal whereas the other ones would be taken to Konkhan area to address the sewerage problem.
She said that an amount of Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the process. Qaiser Jamsheed Lone raised supplementary to the main question.
