RAJOURI: The District Administration Rajouri has initiated an innovative project aimed at providing education and skill development opportunities as well as career guidance to children of Safaikaramcharis working at the Municipal Committee Rajouri.
The project called “Project 100 Dreams” has been designed and launched by the district administration under which 112 children of Safai-karamcharis of the Municipal Committee Rajouri will be provided educational assistance, financial support and all pre-requisites for career development and exploring best possible employment avenues.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, informed that the administration is concentrating on career development of marginalized sections, adding that a number of initiatives are being taken up for students of Nari Niketan, Bal Asharam, Pahari and Tribal Girls hostels.
The district administration has shortlisted 112 children of Safai-Karamcharis, including 55 male and 57 female candidates aged between 4 years to 18 years, for the Project. Out of 112, there are 23 children studying in Nursery and KG, 14 in 1st standard, 11 in 2nd, 13 in 3rd, 10 in 4th, 04 in 5th, 05 in 6th, 04 in 7th, 06 each in 8th and 9th, 8 in 10th, 01 each in 11th and 12th, and 06 drop-outs.
These children will be provided scholarships, tuition for various subjects, insurance cover, pension for their parents, training in self-defense, uniform, school bags, sports material, books, stationery and other items.
Specialized skill development courses, computer certificate courses, vocational training, career counselling and specially designed courses including spoken English will be provided as part of the project. It was informed a special focus is laid on girl students and that additional facilities will be provided to them.
The project also includes exposure visits, distance education, interaction through videoconference, extracurricular activities among other components. It also includes a special module of healthcare and fitness.
Choudhary informed that a committee headed by DDC and comprising DSWO Dr Abdul Khabir, CMO Dr Suresh Sharma, EO MC Manzoor Lone, DYSSO Swarm Singh and representatives from various departments will implement the project.
The project beginning in September 2017 will be an annual scheme. Several departments and organizations are also involved with the project.
