A tweet by actor Shekhar Suman has attracted controversy because it seems to imply that Kangana Ranaut’s latest film, Simran, has underperformed at the box office despite the cascade of publicity it was given in the run up to its release.
Suman, who has a history – at least tangentially – to Kangana, tweeted on Sunday, “Itna hungama ..itna shor sharaba..nateeja?khoda pahad ..nikli chuhiya! (All this excitement for nothing… All this noise, and what was the result? Nothing!),” he wrote.
Kangana’s fans took these comments as insults directed at Kangana, who in the weeks leading up to the film’s release, had revisit several of her past controversies – her alleged affairs with Hrithik Roshan and Aditya Pancholi, her tiff with the director and writer of Simran, and briefly, even her relationship with Suman’s son, Adhyayan.
Her critics accused her of dredging up the past in an attempt to sell her movie.
Adhyayan Suman did not comment on the controversies, but in the past had accused Kangana of practising black magic, and cursing his career with bad luck.
His father’s tweet – which he later defended in another by saying he was speaking generally – got several angry responses. You can read some of them here
