Twenty Six days on no improvement in electricity in Shopian District.

Shopian 30 Nov : Since 4 Nov when seasons first snowfall covered whole valley power supply in Shopian District is yet to be restored fully people are facing immense problems due to power shortage in District.
Residents of Shopian District said, Despite of requests and appeals to concerned PDD department to restore electricity in district there is no improvement in power supply. “We are getting power supply for almost 2 hours out of 24 hours while as some areas get less than 2 hours of power supply”, they added.
Instead of restoring power supply in District department only provide dates after dates for restoring electricity in district which is not solution of their problems they are facing due to power shortage in district.
One of the resident Advocate Owais Khan said, It’s basically the name shopian that is why people are harassed day in and day out and even the basic emenities are curtailed so that the people will suffer more and more in a well planned manner.

It’s just an hour in a day we see electricity that too in intervals. Some people do switch to other means like in past one month people are buying solar systems but what about poor people who even can’t afford to such alternatives.It’s exam time and for various competitive exam students suffer the same way”, he added.
PDD officials of District said, Main tower which supply electricity from wanpoh to Awantipora was damaged due to snowfall at Harnag area of Anantnag district which is undergoing repair and has been almost completed and power supply will be restored in coming days.
Repairing of tower is going on under system and operation wing of PDD who is doing its work to restore it.
Another resident Junaid Ahmad said, they are receiving only 2 hours of electricity since nov even these two hours of power supply come irregularly.
“We are demanding power supply as per the schedule and without frequent cuts”, he added.
Talking to Chief Engineer PDD said, they agree with the grievance of the said District for which their department is doing work to restore the Tower at Anantnag area which has been completed almost 80% and now only electric lines are to be installed. “It will take a week to restore the electricity fully to the affected areas”, he added.
