Celebration of World Soil Day on 5th December 2018

KVK-Ganderbal SKUAST-Kashmir celebrated ‘World Soil Health Day’ with the theme “Be the Solution to Soil Pollution” at the Kendra Campus on December 5th 2018. The programme was attended by 79 progressive farmers and farmwomen, officers of the development department.

Officer of Development Departments and Progressive farmers on the arrival visited the stalls and exhibition put up by KVK Ganderbal.
Incharge Programme Coordinator, Dr. Nasreen Jahan, Associate Prof./ Sr. Scientist (Home Science), delivered the welcome address and introduced the topic to the participants.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, SMS (Plant Protection), delivered lecture on impact of soil pollution on plant health & use of bio-pestcides and ITK techniques for management of soil born diseases of agriculture crops, Dr. Gazala Nazir, Programme Assistant (Vegetable Science), delivered lecture on “Protected cultivation of vegetable crops & soil pollution.

District Agriculture Officer, Ganderbal, Highlighted the importance of Soil Health and use of organic inputs such as vermicompost, well decomposed FYM, for better crop health. Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Ganderbal, through light on the importance of soil health for quality production of crops.
More than 100 Soil Health Cards (SHC) were distributed among the farmers who participated in the event belonging to various locations of the district.
