A youth planning to join militancy arrested with a grenade in Kupwara

Srinagar, Jan 18: (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested a youth alongwith a grenade before he could join militancy in the frontier district of Kupwara, a police spokesman said.
He said on a tip off police established a check point in Lolab in Kupwara district this morning. During the checking, police arrested a youth identified as Mohammad Aslam Beigh, a resident of Maidanpora after one grenade and other incriminating material were recovered from his possession.
He said during the questioning of Beigh he admitted that he was planning to join a militant outfit. He further informed the police that they were planning attack in Kupwara town.
Spokesman said he further revealed that he was motivated to join militancy through social media by entities based in Pakistan.
A case FIR No. 6/2019 under relevant sections has been registered in P/S Kupwara in this matter, he said.
