Mehbooba demands release of separatist Shahidul Islam, arrested by NIA in 2017

Srinagar, Jan 19: (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday demanded release of separatist leader Shahidul Islam on humanitarian grounds as his wife has suffered a brain hemorrhage.
Shahidul Islam, who was media advisor to chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, was arrested by National Security Agency (NSA) in August 2017 in connection with terror funding case.
Taking to micro blogging site twitter Ms Mehbooba said “ I share your concern for Shahid Ul Islam. Have spoken with HM requesting his early release on humanitarian grounds as the wife has suffered a brain hemorrhage”.
She was responding to a tweet which reads “ Jailed separatist leader Adv Shahid Ul Islam deserves to be released on Humanitarian-Grounds as his wife has suffered Brain Hemorrhage. There’s nobody to look after her & their 2 school-going daughters”.
The NIA besides Shahidul Islam, also has arrested Aiyaz Akbar, spokesman of chairman of hardline HC Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Nayeem Ahmad Khan besides Dukhtarn-e-Milat chief Asiya Andrabi in connection with terror funding cases.
