JKLR chairman Malik arrested to foil march in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik was on Monday arrested to prevent him leading a march in Srinagar on the 29th death anniversary of over 50 persons killed in alleged security forces firing on a procession at Gaw Kadal near here.
Another senior separatist leader and Peoples Political Party (PPP) Hilal Ahmad War has also been taken into custody on Sunday from his house.
Official sources said a police party arrested Malik from his Maisuma house today. He was later lodged in police station Kothibagh, they said.
A spokesman of the front said that Malik was to lead a march in the civil lines to mark the 29th death anniversary of 51 people killed in Gaw Kadal area of the city allegedly by security forces on this day in 1990.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Malik , has called for a general strike today in areas of Gaw Kadal, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma and adjoining localities.File Photo
