Ahead of RD; 2 grenade attacks in Anantnag, police constable injured

Srinagar, Jan 25: (UNI) A police constable was injured as militants carried out two grenade attacks in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Friday, official sources said.
The grenade attacks come at a time when security forces are on high alert in view of Republic Day, which will be celebrated across the country on Saturday.
They told UNI that militants lobbed a grenade at a police party at Bus Stand Anantnag on Friday afternoon, resulting in injuries to a constable. “The constable identified as Sajad Ahmad was immediately taken to a local hospital,” they said.
They said militants also hurled a grenade at Police Station Srigufwara, Bijbehara in Anantnag. However, they said the grenade missed the target and exploded outside the police station. “No one was injured in this attack,” they added.
Meanwhile, additional security forces were rushed to both the areas and search operations have been launched to nab the attackers.
Besides today’s attacks, six grenade attacks have been carried out by militants in the last about two weeks in Kashmir valley. Six people — two from Srinagar, two from Ganderbal, one from Bandipora and one from Delhi — have been arrested in connection with these grenade attacks in the valley.
A civilian was injured when militants hurled a hand grenade towards the security forces at K P Road in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on January 19. On January 18, militants lobbed a grenade at CRPF party near Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk though no one was injured in the attack.
