Jammu gears up for Saturday’s Republic Day celebrations

Jammu, Jan 25: (UNI) Amid tight security arrangements, the winter capital of the state Jammu and Kashmir is all geared up for the Saturday’s Republic Day celebrations.
This year’s venue, University of Jammu has been beautifully decorated as all arrangements are put in place for smooth and successful celebrations of the national event.
In view of ongoing construction work at the Maulana Azad Stadium which is coming up as an exclusive cricket stadium worth Rs 45 crore of an international standard, the Republic Day function has been shifted to the Jammu University.
“The Jammu University is set to host the Republic Day function with a bang,” an official here said.
He said that the function will be held in the ground opposite General Zorawar Singh Auditorium and the government has raised the required infrastructure at the venue for the celebrations.
“The surroundings apart from the main venue has been white-washed, roads inside the campus, got the face lift while special barricades have also been raised to avoid mess near the venue,” he added.
Meanwhile special arrangements like traffic regulation, diversion of vehicles and raised check points have also been put in across the Jammu city.
The government buildings are beautifully decorated and illuminated with fancy tri-color lights to mark the occasion.
Many schools and colleges are celebrating the day by holding special assemblies, cultural programmes, skits while national flags were also hoisted on Friday.
Tight security arrangements are also put in place across the region for peaceful and incident free celebrations in each and every district of Jammu region.
