Over 1,000 Kashmir-bound passengers stranded in Jammu as NH remains blocked
Jammu, Jan 25: (UNI) More than 1,000 Kashmir-bound passengers are stranded here at General Bus Stand and other parts of the city as Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the fifth consecutive day due to snowfall on Friday.
“Over 1000 passengers from Kashmir, including the labourers going to the valley, are stuck up at the bus stand here and some other parts besides hotels and lodges due the blocked road,” a senior police official here said.
He said that there is no movement of vehicles on the highway as it is completely blocked due to snowfall and landslides at some places,” said an official.
They said that BRO men are on job to clear the road.
“Directions have been issued to the hoteliers and lodges owners besides the restaurant operators not to overcharge from the stranded passengers and if anybody found indulged into the exercise will face action,” Deputy SP Varun Jandial, SDPO City North said.
He said that the passengers are demanding that they should be airlifted to the Kashmir valley if the road remains blocked, adding, “the divisional authorities are in touch with the Air Force officials for further course of action.”
The police officer asserted that the district administration has made arrangements of food and shelter for the stranded passengers at Chander Bagha Community Hall.
