16 terror camps active in PoK, Pak near LoC: Lt Gen Ranbir Singh

Udhampur, Feb 7: (UNI) Asserting that a multi-tier anti-infiltration system is in place, Army Commander, Northern Command Lt Gen Ranbir Singh on Thursday said that 16 terror camps are active in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Pakistan.
“As far as borders with Pakistan are concerned, terror launching pads are intact across and that is why Pakistani Army violates the ceasefire,” Lt Gen Singh told reporters in a press conference here, after distributing the Gallantry and Distinguish awards at the Northern Command’s Investiture Ceremony.
“We have multi-tier anti infiltration system in place along the border and also have very clear strategy to combat ceasefire violations,” he said.
“As per our inputs,16 terror camps are active in PoK and Pak close to the LoC and we have information on this, besides we maintain surveillance ,” he added.
On the number of terrorists active in the state, the Army Commander said, “As far as the terrorists are concerned, 350-400 terrorists are active in Kashmir, but nearly 50 are active in South of Pir Panchal and most of them are dormant.
The General, on withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, said “There is no fixed time line for the removal of Afghanistan, but we are monitoring the situation. We are also prepared for the contingency”.
On 2003 Ceasefire Violation agreement, Gen Singh said that India is committed to peace and tranquility, along the LoC.
“We respect CFV document, but at the same time, we also reply to it strongly and effectively.
“We are of concern and it is not alarming. Issues related to cyber security and de-radicalisation always have been raised and we are working on this.
“We are using technology to look at the kind of potential threats, so that the gullible youth cannot be set prey,” he asserted.
On detention of three Army personnel in connection with slain Army soldier Aurangzeb, Lt Gen Singh said that they received the information and investigation is on, into the matter.
The Army Commander, while giving credit to local populace (Awaam), said that Pakistan have been disturbing peace on many occasions, but the Indian Army has succeeded in the hinterland to counter militancy and have done many successful operations.
Meanwhile, on former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti targeting the Indian Army and visiting families of terrorists, the General said, “The Governor has already made statement on the issue, but the Army has a set procedure and we always follow SOP in all operations, if anything goes wrong, action is taken accordingly”.
He, however, said that political statements never demoralise the Indian Army, rather they are committed to their professionalism and dedication.
On the movement of Pakistani Army officers close to the forward areas along the LoC, he said, “It is a normal exercise, as we also visit the LoC to review the situation, but we monitor every movement of Pak seniors officers across the border.”
He, however, on another 2016 type “surgical strike”, said “Well for Indian Army, the range of operations is always open to convey the right message”.
Gen Singh said that Surgical Strikes were just a tactical operation, to convey that Indian Army is ready to carry out any operation.
The Army Commander also said that Army is also at the forefront in disaster-like situations, to help the general public.
On the recently-released movie ‘Uri,’ the General said it is for entertainment, but such movies also aware people about the sacrifice of soldiers.
