Omar promises divisional status to Chenab, Pir Panchal if voted to power

Srinagar, Feb 8: (UNI) Asserting that if elected to power in Assembly elections, his government will grant division status to Chenab valley and Pir Panchal regions, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah said he won’t adopt the pick and choose approach of the Governor but will instead take a holistic view and address the wider problems.
“After the elections of 2019 should the people of J&K repose faith in @JKNC_ our government will grant division status to Chenab valley & Pir Panchal regions as already laid out in our regional autonomy promise,” Mr Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of J&K, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Mr Abdullah said he will take care of regional and sub-regional aspirations. “We won’t adopt the pick & choose approach of the Governor but will instead take a holistic view & address the wider problems. Our regional autonomy document will be our template,” he wrote.
The NC Vice President was responding to the state government approving creation of a separate Administrative/ Revenue Division for Ladakh. “The division will comprise of Leh and Kargil districts with its headquarters at Leh,” said an official handout on Friday.
