PDP organize protest march in Srinagar against attack on Kashmiris
Srinagar, Feb 17: (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday organized a protest march in summer capital, Srinagar, demanding safety of Kashmiris in winter capital, Jammu, and other parts of the country.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who headed coalition government with BJP before the saffron party pulled out in June last year, has we must not allow such mischievous elements to use the Pulwama tragic attack an excuse to prosecute and harass people from Jammu and Kashmir.
About 40 CRPF personnel were martyred after a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) fidayeen rammed his car into CRPF bus at Goripora Awantipora in Pulwama on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Thursday afternoon, evoking massive condemnation across the country.
PDP senior party functionaries, including former ministers Abdul Rehman Veeri, Aisha Naqash and Khursheed Aalam alongwith other workers took out a procession from party headquarter at S K Park near here today, raising slogans demanding safety and security of Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of the valley.
They condemned attack on employees and other Kashmiri residents in Jammu and students elsewhere in the country.
However, security forces had put up barricades and other road blocks at Polo Ground and stopped the PDP processionists from moving towards Press Enclave.
Later, they dispersed peacefully.
Former Chief minister had earlier tweeted “ Understand the pain & anguish. But we musnt allow such mischievous elements to use this as an excuse to persecute / harass people from J&K. Why should they suffer for somebody else’s action? We need to be united instead of letting people exploit our fears.
“In ths time of grief & outrage, attempts will be made to divide us. Religions & identities will be pitted against each other. Hindu vs Mus. Jam vs Kash. Our pain musnt fuel such diabolical plans. Because eventually, the axe forgets but the tree remembers”, she had tweeted.
