Omar welcomes SC direction to states over attack on Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 22: (UNI) Welcoming the direction by Supreme Court (SC) to 10 states of the country to ensure safety of Kashmiris, former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Friday said Union Human Resource Development( HRD) minister was busy living in denial and a Governor was busy issuing threats.
Mr Omar taking to micro blogging site twitter today said “ Grateful to the Hon Supreme Court of India for doing what our elected leadership in Delhi should have been doing. The union HRD minister was busy living in denial & a Governor was busy issuing threats. Thank goodness the Hon SC stepped in”.
The SC asked 10 states to take “prompt action” to ensure Kashmiris living across the country do not face social boycott or attacks, amid reports of threats and violence against them in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack.
The 10 states are Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Punjab and Maharashtra.
Over 40 CRPF personnel were killed and several others injured when a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant rammed RDX laden vehicle into a CRPF convoy at Awantipora on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on February 14 evening, evoking protests across the country. Kashmiri students and traders were allegedly attacked by demonstrators in Jammu and elsewhere in the country.
Meghalaya Governor//I Tathagata Roy has supported the call to boycott Kashmiri products. However, it evoked sharp reaction in the country.
