SF resume CASO in Handwara, 2 CRPF as many policemen among 5 killed

Srinagar, Mar 2: (UNI) Security forces with the first light on Saturday morning resumed Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) against militants in Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara, where so far two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and as many state police personnel besides a civilian were killed.
The operation was going on when the reports last came in, a police spokesman said today.
He said with the first light this morning security forces resumed operation against militants at Baba Gund area in Kralgund Handwara in Kupwara district.
Giving details police spokesman said based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Baba Gund area of Kralgund in Handwara, a CASO was launched jointly by Police and security forces in the area yesterday. As the searches were going on, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately on the search party.
He said in the process, two police personnel, two CRPF personnel and a civilian ustained critical injuries and later succumbed. The two police personnel who attained martyrdom have been identified as Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) Naseer Ahmad Kholi and SgCt Ghulam Mustafa Barah and two CRPF personnel have been identified as Inspector Pintu and Constable Vinod . In the nearby area a civilian identified as Waseem Ahmad Mir also sustained bullet injury consequently succumbed at the hospital .
Meanwhile, he said, citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
Spokesman today said Director General of Police (DGP)Dilbag Singh has conveyed deepest condolences on behalf of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to the bereaved family of our two brave Police men who were working as Personnel Security Officers (PSOs) to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara and were participating in the operation launched against JeM militants yesterday.
We also pay our tributes to Inspector Pinto and other jawan of CRPF who made supreme sacrifice of their lives in the same operation yesterday.
Our best wishes to the injured officers and jawans of army police and CRPF for their speedy recovery, the DGP said.
