MMeU condemns NIA notice to Mirwaiz, crack down on JeI, separatists

Srinagar, Mar 12: (UNI) Expressing solidarity with chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq who was summoned by National Investigation Agency (NIA) , the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMeU) on Tuesday also condemned crack down on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and separatist leaders in Kashmir.
However, Mirwaiz refused to appear to before the NIA on Monday at New Delhi citing security concerns. However, he said that he was ready for questioning in Srinagar instead of Delhi. Besides Mirwaiz, NIA had also summoned son of hardline HC chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in connection with alleged terror funding.
A spokesman of the MMeU, an amalgam of different religious organizations, said on Monday a meeting , also attended by Imams, was held at historic Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal in the down town.
The meeting discussed notice by NIA to Mirwaiz of Kashmir besides prevailing situation in the Kashmir valley, where JeI was banned and its leaders arrested.
He said the meeting expresses solidarity with Mirwaiz and assured him that we standby him at this time when he is being harassed and victimized by the authorities and would stay shoulder to shoulder with him.
“The meeting strongly denounced the NIA notice to Mirwaiz and summoning him to Delhi for questioning and termed it as a direct interference in religious affairs of Muslim”. However, he said the meeting made it clear that Mirwaiz is not just a political leader but religious head of people of Kashmir and any attempt to harass would be strongly opposed as it will deeply hurt the sentiments and feelings of people across the State, he said .
The meeting also strongly condemned the imposition of ban on JeI and arrest of its leaders and cadres and called it a blatant interference in religious affairs.
The participants strongly condemned frequent sealing of historic Jamia Masjid which is the religious and spiritual epicenter of the lacs of people of the State and termed the barring of Friday prayers as highly intolerable stating that the move amounts to direct religious interference.
The meeting lays special focus on all segments of society and people of Kashmir to shun sectarian difference and other ideological rifts and to stay United at this crucial juncture when there is a tremendous onslaught against people. The meeting also urged the people to remain alert about the ploys aimed at creating a wedge among the people on sectarian lines and to defeat all such moves.
He said it was deciDed that a resolution will be passed during the Friday (March 15) congregational prayers across Kashmir in all Masjids, shrines Imams Baras for seeking unanimous support of people of Kashmir against the NIA notice to Mirwaiz, crackdown on JeI and banning the organisation, crackdown on Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees, arrest of resistance leaders and alleged repressive measures of Delhi against the innocent people of Kashmir.
