Srinagar, Mar 13: (UNI) Alleging that BJP government has consciously disenfranchised the people of Jammu and Kashmir, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister hold assembly elections so that people get right to choose their own government.
Let the people of the state to choose their own government in a dramatic way by paving way for holding assembly election, the vice president of the National Conference (NC) Omar said adding we oppose to being governed by a hand picked nominees of the central government.
Taking to micro blogging site Omar said “The right to choose an elected government, as opposed to being governed by a hand picked nominee of the central government, is the hallmark of the sort of democracy you are tweeting about. Please give us our democratic right to choose our own government.
He further tweeted “ “Dear @narendramodi Sahib, it is good to see you appealing to famous people to increase voter turnout however at the same time your government has consciously disenfranchised people in J&K by not holding Assembly elections on time.
Omar was reacting to Mr Modi’s on Wednesday morning appealed all people from different walks of life to ensure that people in large numbers come out to vote in general elections 2019.
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India recently announced poll dates for Lok Sabha besides some states in the country. However, ECE has not announced any date for Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which is under presidents rule, evoking sharp reaction from mainstream parties in the state and other parts of the country.
However, CEC has appointed three member committee to assess the situation on the ground in Jammu and Kashmir before it takes a decision about holding the Assembly elections in the troubled state.
