Jammu, Mar 26 :(UNI) Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party on Tuesday sought personal intervention of Prime Minister, Chief Election Commissioner and the state Governor in ensuring adequate security cover to the candidates contesting Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking to media here, JKNPP Chief Prof Bhim Singh alleged, ?Surprisingly with the announcement of election Model Code of Conduct, ADGP security, J&K has acted swiftly to withdraw security cover and PSOs from Ex-legislators and State level party leaders who are under threat perceptions to campaign for contesting candidates in the length & breadth of Jammu & Kashmir state.”
He said that the legislatures and party workers are under threat from militancy. “Under this critical situation it is difficult to campaign and contest the elections by Panthers candidates and their campaigners,? he added.
The panther party leader claimed that he has been knocking doors of higher authorities for the past some days demanding security cover to the candidates and campaign leaders in Kashmir Province and Jammu, but of no avail.
Prof Singh being in ?Z? category has been deprived of Police escort with the intention that he should not be able to campaign in militancy prone areas of Kashmir and Jammu during the elections, he claimed.
?Our Party candidate from Baramulla constituency, Jahangir Khan, State Secretary is without any security cover,? he said and added, ?our star campaigners for the party like Ms Anita Thakur, State General Secretary who is a ?Y? category protectee has been deprived of security PSOs?.
?We seek immediate intervention of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, CEC to ensure provision of necessary security cover for Panthers Party candidates and leadership,? said Prof Singh.
