Srinagar, Mar 29: (UNI) A group of Pakistani spouses of former local militants, who had returned to Kashmir valley under J&K government’s rehabilitation policy via Nepal, on Friday protested in the summer capital, Srinagar, demanded travel documents so that they can visit their families in the neighbouring country.
Holding banners in support of their demands, the protesting women hit the streets at Press Enclave in Srinagar on Friday, urging the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan to intervene into the matter. “We request the Prime Ministers of both the countries to intervene and mitigate our sufferings. We have been left at the mercury of God… We are in immense need of travel documents so that we can visit our families,” they said.
“We have been protesting since 2012, but it seems that all our pleas for justice are falling on deaf ears. The government should issue us travel documents and permanent resident certificate as it is our right,” they added.
The women had arrived in Kashmir via Nepal alongwith their husbands after the then chief minister Omar Abdullah announced rehabilitation policy for surrendered militants in 2010.
