4th State Tong IL Moo Do championship kick-starts in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 22: (UNI) The fourth State Tong IL Moo Do championship was kick-started on Monday at S K Indoor Stadium in the summer capital, Srinagar.
Meanwhile, three international trainers from United State of America (USA) taught students from different schools and colleges self-defence after the inauguration of the state event at the Indoor stadium.
About 500 students from different parts of J&K are participating in the three-day state championship, which is being organized by J&K State Tong IL Moo Do Association.
Several top players, who have represented their states and country at various national and international events, dazzled the audience with their entertaining demonstrations. Besides martial arts, traditional dance performance — including Kashmiri Rouf and Punjabi dance – were performed by the student of Linton Hall School. The martial arts demonstrations were given by Muzaffar Tae Kwon Do Club.
The schools which participated in the event, included Iqbal Memorial, Shah-i-Hamdan Educational Institute, Linton Hall, R P School Zainakote, Tibetain School, Saadi Memorial Institute, Army Goodwill School Sopore, Sopore Public School and SSM Higher Secondary School.
Lauding the state Association for organizing the state event, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, Haseeb Mughal, who was the guest of honour, said more such events should be held in the valley so that local youth could showcase their talent.
Mr Mughal also appreciated Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Unified Martial Arts (JKAUMA) for organizing the self-defence session by international masters from USA in the stadium.
“About 500 students from all 10 districts of Kashmir valley and two districts from Jammu region participated in the state Tong IL Moo Do championship. The event which started on Monday will be concluded on Wednesday. The state event is in the run up to prepare students in the upcoming national and international events,” Omar Gassi, who is the President of J&K State Tong IL Moo Do championship, said.
He said despite all odds, the event is going to be a success. “We had also sought services of three international trainers from USA for an-hour-long self defence session at the stadium,” he added.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of J&K State Tong IL Moo Do association said the association has been entrusted to hold a national event in the valley in coming months during which 18 different states are expected to participate.
