Rain bring chill after maximum temp dips considerably in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 24: (UNI) The maximum temperature witnessed about ten degree drop on Wednesday due to intermittent rain since Tuesday evening resulting in chill in the Kashmir valley, where people were seen wearing sweaters, jackets and other heavy cloths.
A Met department spokesman said here this evening that there could be widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers in Kashmir and Jammu divisions and scattered in Ladakh region. Fairly Widespread to scattered light rain and thundershowers during the subsequent two days, he said.
Life was thrown out of gear in the summer capital, Srinagar, where 12 mm of rainfall was received from 0830 hrs to 1700 hrs on Wednesday. A number of roads remained water-lodged affecting normal traffic and pedestrian movement in the city.
Spokesman said against 28.5 degree maximum recorded yesterday, there was considerable drop of more then ten notches today resulting in chill. The maximum temperature in the city was 18 degree, 4.3 notches below normal. People could be seen wearing jackets and sweaters.
However, despite rain people visited Asia’s largest Tulip garden on the foothill of Zabarwan, overlooking Dal Lake. According to officials over 1.82 lakh people, including tourists from different parts of the country have so far visited the garden. However, heavy rain and strong winds could damage tulip flowers.
He said there could be moderate rain and thundershowers and the maximum temperature and minimum temperatures would be around 18 degree and 11 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded highest 21.4 mm rainfall today with the result the maximum temperature witnessed drop about ten degree drop against yesterday when it was 28 degree.
Pahalgam, the world famous health resort in south Kashmir also received 16.4 mm rainfall from 0830 hrs to 1700 hrs today resulting in about ten degree drop in the temperature. Local people could be seen wearing Pheran and other woolen cloths due to chill. Against yesterdays 24.2 degree maximum temperature, it was just 14.6 degree today.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg also recorded about seven degree drop after receiving 10 mm rainfall today.
He said there could be very light rain or snow and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 12 degree and 4 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Leh.
There could be light rain and thundershowers in winter capital, Jammu, where the maximum and minimum temperatures could be 34 degree and 10 degree respectively during the next 24 hours, he said.
