Ex-MLA Aijaz Mir demands several degree colleges in Shopian district.
Srinagar Jun,13: Senior PDP leader and former MLA from Wachi Advocate Aijaz Ahmed Mir today demanded few degree colleges in the mountainous District of Shopian .
In a statement issued here, Mir said that given the tough terrain and topography of Shopian district, there is a need to open few degree colleges in the district so that the students are able to continue their studies after passing out the secondary school examination .
“It has been seen that due to the lack of degree colleges, most of the students After Secondary Class shun their studies as they have no proper means of transport available to them to reach the college located in the Shopian town . The areas like Imam Sahib, Hermain, Kaprin and Keller do qualify for such colleges including one for the women of this area to check the growing trend of drop-out rate of the district ” Mir said .
He further added that establishing of Degree Colleges would boost the education environment in the district, which otherwise continues to remain educationally backward.
Mir appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to look into the genuine demand of the populace and sanction the degree colleges so that the student community residing in the far flung areas of this mountainous district are benefited.
