Srinagar, Jul 1: The first Research Day was on Monday celebrated to commemorate Doctors Day at S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) during which 30 faulty members representing each of the specialty presented their works on varied topics after selected by a view committee.
A spokesperson of the SKIMS said this afternoon that to commemorate Doctor’s Day, celebrated the First Research Day today at the Auditorium.
She said during the various scientific sessions 30 faculty members representing each of the specialty presented their research work on varied topics after selected by a review committee.
Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar who was the chief guest on the occasion felicitated the SKIMS administration on bringing forth the research done at SKIMS.
He said research opens new frontiers and there should be constant efforts in this direction as the purpose of all knowledge is action, he quoted.
Guest of honors, Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir and Dr Adarsh Chaudhary, Chairman GI Surgery, GI Oncology and Bariatric Surgery, Medanta also lauded the administration for organizing the first of its kind research program. They reiterated on localized and indigenous research.
Program coordinator, Dr Ashraf Ganie highlighted the essence of conducting the First Research Day and said that there is a need to do clinical practice in light of the research relevant to local and global diseases. In developing countries lot of resource is lost in inappropriate use of medicine for which cutting edge research is needed which changes clinical practice, he added.
Dr Omar Javed Shah, Director SKIMS/EOSG appreciated the faculty for their contributions and said the research day which will be held annually is an important event with long term implications. He said the SKIMS has taken a lead in research at par with global institutions and is a reputed center to produce skilled resource. He thanked all guests and participants in the event.
The event was attended by eminent scientists and Ex-Directors of the Institution besides students and faculty. Research day logo was also released on the occasion symbolizing creation of harmonious environment for growth of enlightened minds to generate new ideas for innovation in research. Dr Muzaffar Maqsood Wani, Co-coordinator of the program presented vote of thanks.
