Anantnag, Jul 11: A teenage cricketer died after being hit by the ball during an Under-17 cricket match in this south Kashmir district on Thursday, official sources said.
They during the match between Badgam and Baramulla at Nanil sports stadium a player identified as Jahangeer Ahmad War was hit by the ball in his neck while trying to execute a pull shot.
Jahangeer, a resident of Goshbugh Pattan, Baramulla was immediately rushed to local hospital at Mattan where he was declared brought dead.
Advisors to Governor, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai on Wednesday inaugurated divisional level inter district cricket tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara, Anantnag. The students in the categories of Under 14, u/17 and u/19 are participating in the week long tournament organised by District Youth Services and Sports department Anantnag.
