Srinagar, Jul 19: A Personal Security Officer (PSO) of senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Sajad Mufti was on Friday shot dead by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Official sources said that the PSO, identified as Farooq Ahmad, was standing guard outside a mosque in Bijbehara, Anantnag, where Mr Mufti was offering Friday prayers. Mr Mufti is the cousin of former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
They said unidentified gunmen fired at Ahmad from point blank range, resulting in his critical injuries. “The injured was immediately taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” they said.
They said the gunmen also decamped with his service rifle. “Security forces were rushed to the area and a search operation was launched to nab the attackers,” they added.
