Srinagar, Jul 22: The contractual paramedical employees of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar went on a two-day strike from Monday, demanding regularization.
A similar strike has also been started in GMC Jammu.
An official of the Contractual Paramedics Association (Academic arrangement), GMC Srinagar, said that the employees were forced to go on a strike as the health department has neglected their plight over the years. “We are observing a strike both in GMC Srinagar and GMC Srinagar for two days from today,” he said.
He said contractual employees of the two medical colleges are demanding regularization of their services. “There are about 1000 contractual paramedics, half of which are posted in associate hospitals of GMC Srinagar,” he said, adding by not regularization their services and with policy in place to do so, the government was putting their careers at stake.
He said if their demands were not fulfilled, they will intensify their protest.
