Srinagar, Jul 24: Body of a teenage girl was on Wednesday recovered from river Jhelum in the border town of Uri in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
Official sources said that panic gripped village Dachi when some locals saw body of a girl floating in the river. “The locals immediately informed the police,” they said, adding a team was rushed to the area and the body was fished out.
They said the deceased was later identified as Rubeena Bano, who had reportedly slipped and drowned in the river while grazing cattle on Tuesday.
“After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to her relatives for last rites,” they said, adding police has registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident.
