Urs Of ‘Dastageer Sahib’ Celebrated With Fevour
Srinagar, Nov 27 (GNS): Despite prevailing cold conditions, thousands of people on Friday thronged the shrine of revered Sufi saint Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), commonly known as ‘Datageer Sahib’ at Khaniyar here and offered prayers throughout the day on the annual Urs.
Reports reaching GNS said congregational prayers at the famous shrine were offered by thousands of people, who converged from different parts of the Valley.
Devotees offered Durud (praises to prophet Muhammad (SAW)) while the chief cleric of the shrine threw light on the contributions of the saint in spreading Islam in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Similar congregation was also held at the shrine of Dastageer Sahib Saraibala Lal Chowk in the city centre.
Meanwhile, reports of massive traffic jam were received from areas adjoining the shrine. People complained that except for a few traffic cops adjacent to the shrine, traffic police was nowhere seen as a result of which large traffic snarls were witnessed. “The traffic cops were posted on either sides of the shrine only where barricades were erected to prevent traffic to move from the area. Elsewhere there was no traffic personnel deployed which caused massive traffic jam,” the people said. (GNS)
