Advisor visits Baramulla; Took Stock of Post Snowfall Scenario, Met Several Public Delegations

Baramulla, January 19: Affirming the Government’s commitment of strengthening transparency and accountability in governance mechanism, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan today emphasized upon the government functionaries to work with zeal and dedication for providing several public services in a smooth and hassle free manner. He stressed upon the concerned quarters to put your efforts altogether so that all the public grievances more especially those pertaining to essential services, are redressed in a time bound manner.

Advisor made these remarks during a meeting chaired by him at dak bungalow Baramulla where he took stock of post snowfall scenario besides getting the first hand appraisal of various developmental projects/works in the district.

While taking a thorough review of various essential services like power supply, drinking water availability, snow clearance etc, the Advisor observed that all those matters having vital public significance should be given due consideration adding that all the available resources shall be mobilized effectively and productively for greater public convenience. He also directed the concerned authorities of power development department to provide uninterrupted power supply during the schedule hours and strictly abide by the curtailment schedule. He also directed a viable mechanism so that winter tourism is developed and promoted in Baramulla adding that the district has an immense potential in this sector.

Taking a brief appraisal of COVID-19 vaccination programme, the Advisor directed the concerned authorities to disseminate necessary awareness among the people so that different misconceptions and apprehensions that have been developed about the vaccine, are eliminated. He further urged upon the people to follow all the requisite SOPs and guidelines as the challenge of pandemic has still not faded away.

Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo presented the progress cum performance achieved by the district in different sectors through the power point presentation. DDC said that all the essential services that were disrupted due to snowfall, were timely restored through the formulation of prompt and effective response mechanism. Moreover, Dr Itoo appraised various issues and demands pertaining to the smooth functioning of several departments and sought his personal intervention in meeting out them in a time bound manner.

Later, several delegations called on the Advisor who appraised him about their demands and grievances pertaining to developmental concerns.

A delegation of All Tribals Coordination Committee demanded the effective implementation of Forest Rights Act in all the eligible areas. They demanded that the date for claiming the forest rights under the act shall be extended owing to adverse weather conditions in such areas. Moreover, other demands extended by the delegation include inclusion of a member from ST community in Forest Rights Committees, dissemination of awareness in vernacular language about FRA at grass root level among other demands of vital public significance.

Other delegations who appraised their grievances and demands include Sopore Coordination Committee, Traders Federation Baramulla and a delegation from Rafiabad area.

The Advisor gave a patient hearing and assured that all the genuine demands shall be redressed within a stipulated time bound.

Director Rural Development Department,Chief Engineer KPDCL,SSP Baramulla Abdul Quyoom, ADDC,ADC,JDP,SDMs, heads of various departments, Engineers of line departments, district and sectoral officers among other concerned functionaries were present on the occasion.
