Zainapora Sets Benchmark in Anti-Drug Fight, Leads LG’s 100-Day Campaign with Massive Public Mobilisation

Zainapora, April 21: In a decisive and coordinated push against drug abuse, Sub Division Zainapora has emerged as a frontrunner in the ongoing 100-Day Anti-Drug Campaign launched across Jammu & Kashmir, combining strict enforcement with large-scale public awareness and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

A major awareness programme was held at Government Degree College (GDC) Zainapora under the chairmanship of SDM Zainapora Bilal Ahmad (JKAS), drawing participation from officials of the Health and Drug Control Departments, J&K Police, educators, students, chemists, and civil society members.

The programme focused on the misuse of psychotropic and prescription drugs, with experts highlighting the legal framework under the NDPS Act and Drugs & Cosmetics Act. Authorities issued a stern warning against violations in the sale of NRX medicines, stressing that strict action will be taken against defaulters.

Addressing the gathering, the SDM emphasized a dual strategy of strong enforcement and economic transformation, stating that the administration has successfully achieved complete eradication of cannabis and poppy cultivation in the sub-division. In a significant shift, over 800 kanals of land have been converted into high-density apple orchards and nurseries, while more than 2000 individuals are now engaged in agriculture and horticulture-based livelihoods.

Reinforcing the enforcement angle, DySP Zainapora Athar Samad (JKPS) reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against drug peddling and called for active public cooperation. He urged citizens, particularly youth, to act as vigilant stakeholders and report any drug-related activities.

The event culminated in a mass awareness rally passing through key areas of Zainapora town, with participants raising anti-drug slogans and carrying placards promoting a drug-free society.

Officials stated that Zainapora’s integrated approach — combining enforcement, awareness, and livelihood generation — is setting a model for other regions, with the ultimate goal of achieving a Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir.
