IGP Kashmir Chairs Security Meet, Directs Tight Vigil Ahead Of I-Day
Srinagar, Aug 10 (GNS): Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-IPS chaired a high-level security review meeting at PCR Kashmir on Monday to take stock of arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and other events across the Valley.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, RPF, CID, Traffic, Railways, IRP, SDRF, Army’s 15 Corps, SIB and district SSsP of Kashmir Zone, along with other officers.
At the outset, senior officers briefed the IGP on security measures in place for ensuring smooth and peaceful conduct of Independence Day functions. District SSsP also updated the chair on preparations being made in their respective districts.
IGP Birdi directed all officers to complete necessary arrangements well in advance. He reviewed security plans for various events and rallies planned across districts, and assigned specific responsibilities to concerned officers.
He also took a detailed review of security arrangements for the main function at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, and instructed officers to further strengthen measures and ensure foolproof security for the event.
Emphasizing vigilance, the IGP directed strengthening of checkpoints, especially during night hours, at vulnerable spots and along entry and exit routes of the city. He also called for intensified area domination and patrolling in sensitive locations to maintain a robust security presence and effective surveillance.
IGP Birdi stressed strict watch against elements inimical to peace and urged enhanced alertness across all jurisdictions.
The meeting concluded with a resolve for heightened vigil, better inter-agency coordination and effective implementation of security protocols to ensure peaceful observance of Independence Day and other scheduled events in the Valley.(GNS)
