Governor, CM, NC, Azad others condole Peerzada Jeelani’s demise

Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and others have condoled the demise of Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani, former Member of J&K legislative Assembly, who had the distinction of serving as a Member of the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement the Governor Vohra expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Peerzada Jeelani served as MLA for four consecutive terms from 1951 to 1967. He was also a nominated MLC from 1967-1972. Peerzada was also Nishan Dehenda of the holy relic of Peer Dastgeer Sahab (RA) at Khanyar shrine.
CHIEF MINISTER 
Lauding the contribution of Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani in the religious, social and political spheres of Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said his immense contribution in social and economic uplift of his people would be remembered for long.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Naeem Akhter joined the funeral prayers of the deceased at Pampore.
NATIONAL CONFERENCE 
National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family especially Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi and NC youth leader Yawar Masoodi.
Late Haji Ghulam Jeelani was the father-in-law of Justice Masoodi and the maternal grandfather of Yawar Masoodi.
NC Working President Omar Abdullah participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinaza of the deceased at Pampore this morning and was accompanied by Senior NC Leaders including NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani.
Senior Party Leaders including NC General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Senior Leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Sakina Ittoo, Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and State Spokesperson Junaid Mattu besides party legislators, office bearers and activists have also expressed grief over the demise of Haji Ghulam Jeelani and expressed solidarity with Justice Masoodi and Yawar Masoodi.
GHULAM NABI AZAD 
Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and General Secretary AICC, Ghulam Nabi Azad in his condolence message said that he was a veteran freedom fighter and had  also served as Convenor, J&K Freedom Fighters Cell. “It is a great loss. He was a torch bearer of secular forces. May Allah shower his choicest blessings on his soul in heaven,” said Azad.
PROF SAIFUDDIN SOZ  
Former Union Minister and Senior Congress Leader, Prof Saifuddin Soz in his condolence message said:  “I express my deep anguish at the demise of Peerzada Gulam Jeelani . He was the only surviving member of the J&K Constituent Assembly from Kashmir.  He had contributed quite a lot for the integrity of JK. Alongside this, Peerzada Gulam Jeelani had made good contribution regarding the culture and history of Kashmir. Late  Jeelani had gone through many vicissitudes of politics, but, he had remained steadfast on certain basic principles of togetherness and liberalism.”
GHULAM AHMED MIR 
Expressing deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise JKPCC Chief G A Mir termed his death as a great loss to State.
He offered condolences to the family members of Peerzada and prayed for peace to departed soul.
Meanwhile, Former JKPCC President Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed expressed grief over the demise termed his death a loss to the people of Kashmir.
HOUSE PAYS HOMAGE 
Speaker Kavinder Gupta along with other members on Tuesday paid rich tributes to  former MLA and member of the Constituent Assembly, Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani in the House here, who passed away on Monday after brief illness.
Giving a brief introduction about his political career, the Speaker said that late Jeelani started his political career at an early age and was elected Halqa President Pampore National Conference. He also served Chairman, Town Area Committee Pampore. He was delegate and Member of the General Council Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He remained also as President Co-operative Union, Pampore and Cooperative Society, Pampore. He was also Member District Cooperative Central Bank, Anantnag. He was elected Member of Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly in 1951 and was its only surviving Member. He was elected as Member J&K Legislative Assembly in 1957 and re-elected as such in 1962. He also served as Member J&K Legislative Council from 1967 to 1972. He served the people of his Constituency throughout his political career for which he will be always remembered.
Later the House also observed two minute silence to pay homage to the departed leader.
