Horticulture nurseries to be re-modelled in Jammu

Jammu | June 29 (PTK): A review meeting of Horticulture sector was chaired by Secretary, Horticulture, M. H. Malik, here today.

Director Horticulture Jammu, A. K. Sharma, presented details of existing horticulture nurseries in various districts and their present status. He informed that 32 departmental nurseries have been accredited from National Horticulture Board while 42 nurseries have been certified for producing quality plant materials in private sector. The strengthening of these nurseries was discussed in detail.

Sharma informed that 8.25 lakh plants were produced during 2015-16 and the department has targeted to produce 5.75 lakh plants of Apple, Walnut, Peanut, Pear, and Stone Fruit which start bearing fruit after 4 to 5 years.

Secretary Horticulture impressed upon the departmental functionaries to dovetail up grading of nurseries with MGNREGA.

He also took stock present status of mango village to be established at Malla Barode and Sungal. He was apprised that pit digging work is going on for plantation of Mango plants and quality planting material is available with the department.

The Secretary asked the field functionaries to gear up soil testing of orchards in their respective areas.

Deputy Director Horticulture (Central) and Deputy Director Planning and Marketing besides Chief Horticulture Officers of all districts of Jammu division were present on the occasion.
