MHA asks WB Govt to initiate action against Kokata Police Commissioner
New Delhi, Feb 5: (UNI) The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday asked the West Bengal Government to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata Rajeev Kumar a 1989 batch IPS officer, a highly placed source in the Home Ministry said.
In a letter dated February 5, addressed to the West Bengal Chief Secretary, the MHA cited ‘indisciplined behaviour’ and ‘violation of All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968/AIS (D&A) Rules, 1969’ by the officer.
According to the Source, the MHA received information that Mr Kumar sat on a dhama along with some other police officers with the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Metro Channel in Kolkata on Sunday evening which is prima facie in contravention of the extant provisions of AIS (Conduct) Rules, 1968/AIS (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
The Home Ministry sought report from the West Bengal Government for the erring Police officers including the Commissioner Rajeev Kumar who allegedly obstructing the CBI team which went there to question Mr Kumar in the Sharada chit fund scam.
