Restrictions imposed in down town, parts of civil lines Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 9 (UNI) Restrictions have been imposed in down town and parts of the civil line to prevent any demonstration on Saturday, when separatists have called for a general strike on the 6th death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar jail on this day in 2013.
Police said as a precautionary measure restriction under Section 144 CrPC have been imposed in areas under police station M R Gunj, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safa Kadal and Nowhatta in the down town and Maisum in the civil lines and Kralkhud in the old city since early this morning. The restrictions were imposed to maintain law and order, police said.
All gates of historic Jamia Masjid, stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, have been locked and nobody was being allowed to enter the worship place.
Meanwhile, large number of security forces and state police personnel have been deployed in the down town, including entire Nallahmar, since early this morning. Security forces have closed main roads with barbed wire at several places and people were being directed to take interior routes to reach their destinations. However, in some areas people said this time restrictions were not so strict and they were being allowed to move out of their houses.
Security forces were also seen patrolling in other parts of the down town, including Malkha, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal and Khanyar.
All roads leading to Gantaghar and historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, have been closed with barricades. Similarly road leading to Maisuma in the civil lines, has also been closed with barbed wire.
Security forces in large numbers have also been deployed to prevent any untoward incident in the areas under the jurisdiction of police station Kralkhud in the old city.
