Mehbooba ups ante at PM, says relieved after SC’s directive on assault on Kashmiris
Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Asserting that she is relieved after Supreme Court’s directive to states to take ‘prompt’ action to prevent incidents of threat, assault and social boycott of Kashmiris, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti said it is shameful that the judiciary took decisive action where others conveniently turned a blind eye.
Upping the ante at the Prime Minister over his silence on harassment of Kashmiris in rest of the country, Ms Mehbooba said congratulations for winning Seoul Peace prize, but back home in India we are still waiting for Narendra Modi to denounce the vicious attacks on Kashmiris throughout the country.
“Congratulations to the PM on winning the Seoul Peace prize. But sir, back home in India we are still waiting for you to denounce the vicious attacks on Kashmiris throughout the country. But what hope does one have when even a Guv can make incendiary comments & get away with it?” Ms Mehbooba, who is the former chief minister of J&K, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
“Relieved about the SC order to ensure Kashmiri students based outside J&K are not harassed or face social boycott . Shameful that the honourable judiciary took decisive action where others conveniently turned a blind eye,” she added.
The Supreme Court directed the chief secretaries and DGPs of Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand, and the Delhi Police commissioner to prevent incidents of “threat, assault and social boycott” of Kashmiris, including students.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed that the police officers, who were earlier appointed as nodal officers to deal with lynching incidents, would now be responsible to deal with cases of assaults on Kashmiris.
