Curfew like restrictions imposed in down town, SeK in Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 1: (UNI) Curfew like restrictions have been imposed on Friday morning as a precautionary measure in the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) Srinagar following tense situation after rumours were spread that Article 35 A and 370 were amended and Jamaat-e-Islamic (JeI) was banned through different ordinances issued by the centre last night.
All gates of historic Jamia Masjid in the down town, stronghold of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, were closed for devotees. Mirwaiz, who was scheduled to address Friday congregation this afternoon has also been put under house arrest since this morning.
Hundreds of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) and state police personnel have been deployed to strictly implement restrictions.
Donot move out of your homes as curfew has been imposed, security forces were announcing in the down town and SeK this morning. The areas affected due to restrictions included M R Gunj, Safa Kadal, Khanyar, Nowhatta and Rainawari.
Security forces have closed the entire Nallahmar road with barbed wire or parking bullet proof vehicles in the middle of roads at Nawa Kadal, Kawdara, MIrwaiz Manzil and Rangar stop. People were directed to return to their homes by the security forces deployed after every ten feet.
People alleged milkmen and vegetable vendors from outskirts were not allowed to enter the restricted areas due to which they are facing shortage of essentials as there was two day strike on February 27 and 28 called by separatists against NIA raids and crack down on separatists during the past about a week in the valley.
All roads leading to Jamia masjid have also been closed with barbed wire and wood at Khanyar, Rangar stop, Gojwara and Nowhatta. People coming from outskirts were directed to take alternative route to reach civil lines at Gojwara. Large number of CPMF and state police have been deployed in the Jamia market.
However, state government clearified that the ordinance has nothing to do with Article 35 A.
