Life returns to normal after day-long strike in central Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 19: (UNI) Life returned to normal on Friday after remaining crippled in poll bound areas in central Kashmir on Thursday, when polling was held in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, which is spread over three districts of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal.
A police official said that security forces deployed in strength across central Kashmir, particularly near polling stations, on Thursday for security reasons, have been withdrawn.
Shops and business establishments were open and traffic was plying on all routes normally in the summer capital, Srinagar, where some busy routes witnessed traffic jam in civil lines and uptown.
Work in the government offices and banks was also normal in Kashmir valley, where train service also resumed this morning after remaining suspended on Thursday for security reasons. Mobile internet service was resumed after remaining suspended as a precautionary measure on Thursday.
Business and other activities resumed in the main business hubs in civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Gonikhan, Residency Road, Maulana Azad Road, Mahraj Bazar, Batmaloo, Iqbal Park, Dalgate, Regal Chowk and Budshah Chowk.
The situation was no different in the uptown and downtown, where shops and business establishments reopened after day-long strike on Thursday.
Reports of normalcy were coming from twin central Kashmir districts of Budgam and Ganderbal.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a strike on Thursday against elections in poll-bound areas in the valley.
