Srinagar, May 13: Appealing people to maintain peace, brotherhood and Law & Order, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan on Monday assured that the inquiry into the rape of a 3-yaer-old girl in north Kashmir district of Bandipora is being conducted on fast track basis.
Meanwhile, police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the rape of the minor girl which took place on May 8 in Sumbal, Bandipora.
Protests and clashes were reported against the rape from many parts of Kashmir, where all political parties, religious organizations and civil societies, besides general public have demanded stern punishment for the accused.
The Divisional Commissioner said that he is himself monitoring the case and it will be concluded very soon.
He reiterated that justice will be done and the culprit will be given severe punishment as per law.
“Anybody having grievances with regard to Sumbal incident, he or she can personally contact the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir immediately,” Mr Khan added.
Official sources said that the SIT, comprising of SDPO Sumbal, SHO Sumbal and Senior Prosecuting Officer, would investigate into the entire case.
They said that the police have treated the accused as major as the certificate that was uploaded on the social media regarding the age of the accused was “fake”. “The police have reportedly arrested the Principal of a private educational institute, who had allegedly issued the date of birth certificate to the accused,” they added.
Normal life was on Monday affected in the valley due to a strike called by a religious-cum-separatist organisation against rape of the minor girl in Sumbal, Bandipora.
Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) on Monday decided to abstain from court work as a mark of solidarity with the rape victim. “HCBA has decided to abstain from court work today in protest against the kidnapping and rape of three-year-old girl in Malikpora, Sumbal,” a statement issued by JKHCBA said.
